Turneringsrapport - Moss Spenst Open

The Spenst Moss Open was yet again played at the fantastic training centre Spenst Moss. 80 matches were played with over 40 players attending varying in ages from 12 years old to 45 years proving that squash is a sport for all! The Herrer Elite class was finally won by Ronny Åsbø from Hafrsjord Squashklubb after fighting his way through some very tough matches in the earlier rounds to reach the final against Edvard Hegbom from Vangen.

Åsbø won the match 3-1 in probably his most convincing win this year. The surprise of the tournament was young Håkon Standal snatching a 3-2 win over the highly rated Patrick Hansen in the quarter finals to ensure a semi final place against Edvard Hegbom. In the Herrer A there were strong performances from a number of players from Moss but new boy on the scene Christian Bakke from Ås only dropped one set in the whole tournament beating Joar Karlsen 3-1 in the final. The Herrer B tournament was played between a number of Norway's up and coming juniors. Filip Pinto one of the youngest players to attend the tournament beat his fellow Moss member Sebastian Clausen 3-1 in the final. Alvilde Sønju continues to dominate women's squash in Norway by thrashing her opponents in the Damer tournament without breaking sweat let alone dropping a set, Sofie Mejdell Rokstad the young 15 year old from Moss overcame the President Ida Sønju to ensure a credible second place behind Alvide.

We would like to thank everyone for supporting the tournament, without players we would not have these sort of tournaments which helps motivate our younger players and of course our bank balance. The club would also like to thank Spenst Moss for donating all of the court time from 18:00 on Friday all the way to 20:00 on Saturday. Some fantastic prizes were supplied by Dunlop/Diadora and MENY supplied a hearty lunch to the players.

We look forward to next year!
