Moss Spenst Dunlop Junior Open 2012 (Rapport)

This years tournament was sponsored by Dunlop and our loyal supporter Spenst training centre.  Wenaas Sport who are the distributor for squash equipment to the Federation sponsored the tournament with strings for all the players and provided prizes in all the events.  Spenst sponsored the event by allowing the club to use the courts free of charge and finally MENY sponsored the lunch by providing all the food needed to feed the 31 players attending the tournament.
The tournament was played over a Friday evening and a long Saturday with over 90 matches being contested by 31 players, 23 of which came from Moss!  We would like make a special thank you to Bjørn Rune Østerhus who travelled all the way from Stavanger on his own to play in the tournament.  This is a player with ambition watch this space for his name in future tournaments.
We managed to have 6 entries in the Bamseklassen which was won by the local star Jonas Andreassen beating the Bærum wunderkind Nicolai Bø in the final. Gard Åckerstrøm Aasness showed his superiority in Norwegian squash by winning the U13 boys tournament without dropping a set as well as reaching the U15 boys final. Bærum boy Andreas Bø should also be noted for reaching his 2nd final in row.
In the U15 boys event Sigurd Dahle and Filip Pinto had an amazing 5 set match in the semi final with Pinto just edging ahead in the 5th 12-10 to go through to meet Åckerstrøm.  The final was a slightly one sided affair with both players tired after a long tournament with Pinto winning 3-0.
The local Moss boys turned out in force for the U17 boys event with the usual rivalry between Lars Andre Moe and Basit Rauf again dominating the final with Rauf only just pulling through against an improving Moe despite being 2-1 down.
In the U19 boys event the Pinto family again made a final appearance this time with young 15 year old star Daniel Pinto.  He put up a valiant fight against local hero henrik Kay Hermansen who should his experience by finally pulling through 11-9 in the fifth.
Overall a great tournament had by all and the tournament was run by one adult and all the boys from the club to show what can be done by a bunch of 13 to 15 year olds when they are asked to step up!
Thank you to all our sponsors and again Spenst for supporting all of the junior squash players in the region.
