Norgesmesterskapet ble en suksess

Norway National Squash Championship 2022 was a success. Åsane Squashklubb in partnership with Norge Squashforbund delivered the event during this years NMveka within Åsane Arena in Bergen from 24th to 27th March. With 60+ players in Men and Women categories, both draws looked highly competitive and brought amazing squash for the viewers.

In womens category, defending champion Madeleine Hylland (currently studying at Trinity college in the US) took the title in a convincing fashion against an in-form Elin Blikra. Elin showed why she is still considered a tough opponent by upsetting the seedings and beating higher seeded opponents in quarters and semi-finals to reach the ultimate test vs Madeleine in the final showdown.

Trym Aasness, last years mens finalist, secured his second National Title by beating last years champion Adrian Ostbye. Both players came from tough semi-final 5 setters, but showed amazing squash for the packed Åsane crowd.

Some noteable matches and upsets were seen throughout the weekend. With Sebastian Hylland (14) finishing within top 8 and showing why he is the top junior player in Norway. Jonathan Trenegereid (14) also showed impressive play and as the youngest player of the Senior NM gives us all high hopes for the up-and-coming generation of developing players.

Dawood Atif scored an upset in the Men´s playoffs by beating an in-form Håkon Standal (seed 4) where he took the 9th overall position. In the Ladies event, Karianne Blikra and Maria Bukier both showcased quality squash and with it, give a positive outlook on the development of the womens game.
